Ethnic Groups
The Empire of Aan is home to four native Leporan ethnic groups, all using the Aan demonym.
Nóipwijk: Originating from the Nóip Forest and Tielsenwijk Grasslands of Aa, this Leporan ethnic group has short, thick, fluffy fur that is generally a brown-grey colouration but can come in further shades of brown or grey, along with white or black. Their irises are typically in shades of brown or black, but blue, green, and pink are not uncommon. The skin on their nose, inner ears, palms, and soles is a light pink to light brown colouration. Their ears are large, with sixty to seventy percent of the population having lop-ears; the cartilage in their ears is not as structured, enabling the ear to droop. The average adult Nóipwijk is 2 metres tall and weighs ninety kilograms, with bucks typically being heavier. Like most Leporan ethnic groups, their pregnancies will result in one to three kits.
Dëppaa: Originating from the Dëppaa Tundra of northern Aa, this Leporan ethnic group is atypical for their species, having thick fur that changes colour with the seasons. During the warmer months, their fur is typically a light grey to blue-grey, with black ear tips. During the cooler months, their fur will become thicker and white, still with the black ear tips. The skin on their nose, inner ears, palms, and soles is a light brown to black colouration. Their irises are typically shades of brown or yellow, but blue is also common. Their ears are short and erect. The average Dëppaa stands at 2.1 metres tall and weighs ninety kilograms. Like most Leporan ethnic groups, their pregnancies will result in one to three kits.
Nym: Originating from the Nym Archipelago of Aa, this Leporan ethnic group has short woolly fur in shades of dark brown to dark red, and occasionally black. Their irises are typically dark brown or black, but green and dark red are not uncommon. Their ears are short and erect. The skin on their nose, inner ears, palms, and soles is a light brown to black colouration. The average Nym stands at 1.5 metres tall and weighs forty-seven kilograms. Like most Leporan ethnic groups, their pregnancies will result in one to three kits.
Geeulur: Originating from the Geeush Desert and Balur Forest of Aa, this Leporan ethnic group has short fur in shades of light brown to red-yellow, with dark brown speckling and a light cream front, with black ear tips. Their ears are large and erect. The skin on their nose, inner ears, palms, and soles is a light brown to black colouration. Their irises are typically light brown or grey, but blue and green are not uncommon. The average Geeulur stands at 2.1 metres tall and weighs seventy kilograms. Like most Leporan ethnic groups, their pregnancies will result in one to three kits.
Demographics and Geography
Nation Size

Government and Politics
Government Structure and Organisation
The Empire of Aan, natively Konnikaard van Aan, is a semi-constitutional Monarchy, with the Emperor and Empress as joint heads of state, and an Imperial Senate as the head of government. The current reigning ruling family is the Konnik family. All citizens over the age of sixteen, excluding those within the reigning royal families, are legally required to vote, with elections held every four years.
The Emperor and Empress are jointly heads of state, and their eldest child and their spouse will be the heir apparent. Upon the death or abdication of either royal (abdication is normally around age sixty-five), the Crown Prince/ss and their spouse will ascend to the throne. Each system will have a King and Queen as their heads of state, and these royals are either siblings to the current Emperor or Empress, or are members of other royal families. The Emperor and Empress will also be titled the King and Queen of the capital system, Aästré.
The Imperial Senate will consist of thirty-five democratically elected Senators, each representing a system, the thirty-five Kings and Queens, the Ministers for the twelve governmental ministries, and the Prime Aanest (Head Priest/ess of the state religion, Aanism).
The Senators are the joint heads of state of their system, along with the system King and Queen. These royals are siblings to the current Emperor or Empress, members of other royal families, or individuals the Emperor and Empress have seen fit to elevate to royal status. Senators must be between the ages of eighteen and sixty-five, have served at least one term as Councillor, Governor, or Mayor, not be a member of the clergy, or a member of any royal family. Senators can serve up to four terms (a term being four years).

Each planet will have the Councillor, Duke, and Duchess as the joint heads of state, with a Planetary Senate as the head of government. The Planetary Senate will consist of Governors representing each of the provinces, the Barons and Baronesses of each province, local representatives of the twelve ministries, and the local High Priest/ess of Aanism. The position of Governor is open to any citizen over the age of eighteen who has served at least one term as Mayor, is not a member of the clergy, and not a member of a royal family. Each province will have the Governor, Baron, and Baroness as joint heads of state, with the Provisional Senate as the head of government. The Provisional Senate will consist of Mayors representing each of the cities and towns, representatives of the twelve ministries, and the local High Priest/ess of Aanism. The Konnik family are historically Nóipwijk, and Empress Fin is the first non-Nóipwijk to marry into the family, making Crown Princess Jiri Konnik the first mixed heir, being Nym on her mother's side.
Laws and Justice
Diplomacy and Trade
The Empire of Aan has a close relationship with the Republic of Wïker, the Republic of Velhelm, the Republic of Okuma, the Republic of Oveene, Republic of Sheng Xiao, and the Republic of Rosbar. They have a negative relationship with the Triarchy of Jeonchae, due to the latter’s refusal to sign the Ikria Accords. No citizen of Jeonchae is welcome within the Empire of Aan, excluding those escaping slavery. The Empire has separate Scientific Advancement and Commercial Pacts with the Republic of Wïker, the Republic of Aberbarda, the Republic of Zodiakos, and the Republic of Soaria.
Major exports of the Empire of Aan include Education (Language, Sciences), Electronics, and Personnel (Educators, Entertainment, Linguists, Scientists, Translators). Major imports include Education (Military), Fabrics, Fashion (Leporan), Lumber/Timber, Metals, and Precious Gems/Stones.

Language
The official language of the Empire of Aan is Aantaalk. Aantaalk has twenty-four consonants, fourteen vowels, and nine diphthongs. It has a word order of Subject-Verb-Object; the sentence “the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” would read the same way (Dé chïg bryïjn Ñiz faiñed lïple dé kew Wëm). The Aan pride themselves on being multilingual, and common second or third languages include Basic and Sheng Xiao. Other languages spoken in the Empire include Wïkersei, Zodiaklom, Velhelm, Oveene, and Efian.
Aan Sign (Aan Mytaalk) is the official sign language of the Empire of Aan, and it is used widely by roughly ninety percent of the population. Aan Mytaalk is used most commonly amongst the deaf and hard of hearing communities, however most citizens learn it at school as part of their compulsory education. Other sign languages used in the Empire include Basic Sign, Zodiak Sign, Velhelm Sign, and Wïkersei Fjevwulpen.
Naming
Aan names include three parts; First name, Parental Name, and Familial Name
Aan first names have fairly simple rules. Feminine names are typically based on names for plants and flowers, in Aantaalk or other languages e.g., Jiri (Rose), Varen (Fern), Fin (Olive), Góg (Apple), and Kübshyth (Basil). Masculine names are typically based on names for minerals or chemical elements, in Aantaalk or other languages e.g., Kobalt (Cobalt), Zaai (crystal), Lavaglaas (obsidian), Seeun (gold), and Ñeeti (silver). Sometimes, the naming conventions of other cultures are also used.
Parental names are the combination of the two parent’s names. This is typically mother (or eldest parent) then father (or youngest parent) e.g., Jirikobalt, Finseeun, Olivelavaglaas.
Familial names are often based on an ancestral occupation or locale, or on a word or phrase associated with the ancestor. Example familial names include Piñói (Farmer), Pimäkdón (Builder), Miugenrend (from the village of Genrend), Miubalk (from the city of Balk), and Chyppifööñ (swamp-dweller). Familial names are often passed from eldest parent to offspring, and the youngest of the couple will take the eldest’s familial name upon marriage. In royal families, it is the familial name of the highest-ranking individual whose familial name is taken, regardless of age.
Aan location naming is fairly simple outside of Aan. Location names on Aan are based in Ancient Aantaalk and other extinct languages (such as Geeushdói and Dëppaataalk) and so their meanings have been lost. Outside of Aan, location names are often based on an early settler, a famous explorer or royal, or the geography e.g., Finharn Üs (Fin’s Garden), Rydkyn (Red Forest), and Pidfoop (Quiet River).
