Sapient

Sapient lifeforms are sentient organisms that are not just able to feel pain and emotions and can be self-aware, sapient lifeforms are also able to form complex bonds, develop languages and cultures, build and utilise tools, and most importantly, the ability to have magic users. Some species of sentient organisms are sometimes classed as "Near-sapient" due to achieving all but the most important sapient criteria; Near-sapient species cannot use magic.

All sapient species, regardless of the abilities of their non-sapient relatives, are capable of seeing within the colour range of 380 to 740 nanometres, although some species are able to see outside this range as well, specifically in the ultraviolet (below 380 nanometres) and infrared (above 740 nanometres) ranges. All sapient species are also capable of metabolising various substances that may be toxic to their non-sapient relatives, such as theobromine, caffeine, persin, alcohols, and capsaicin, although tolerances vary amongst species.
